The Mount Vernon Head, Neck and Thyroid Cancer Network consists of a group of hospitals working closely together to provide treatment to a catchment population of 1.4 million in the counties of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. It is situated in the northeastern side of Greater London. Curative surgery and reconstruction is carried out at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital whereas radiotherapy and chemotherapy are delivered at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. Three other hospitals in the Network also provide diagnostic services. The Network is serviced by four ENT/Head and Neck Surgeons, three Maxillofacial/Reconstructive Surgeons, two Clinical Oncologists, four Radiologists, two Histopathologists, four clinical nurse specialists, and other allied health professionals including dietitians and speech therapists. These core team members will meet weekly to discuss diagnosis and management plan for all newly diagnosed patients and those who suffer recurrence of cancer. Over 200 new cases of head, neck and thyroid cancers are seen annually.
