Dr. Ellis is Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. He is also the director of the OMS residency.

Dr. Ellis' clinical interests are in maxillofacial traumatology, dentofacial deformities, and dental implantology. He has authored over 100 scientific articles and two books.

He is the past President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has been on the editorial boards of many Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery journals for several years.
