Carob Mill

The 29th Congress of ICMFS will be held at the ‘Lanitis Carob Mill’, which is, if not the largest, one the largest listed industrial buildings in Cyprus.

The Lanitis Carob Mill houses the Evagoras Lanitis Centre, where the ICMFS 2015 Conference will take place. It comprises of one third of the Carob Mill and it was originally used for the storage of Carob products that used to be processed through the carob crushers.

Lanitis Carob Mill was built in the early 1900s when carobs were one of the main exports of Cyprus. The building was used for processing and manufacturing products such as film, medicine, sweets and chocolates. Despite the passage of more than a hundred years, most of the milling equipment for processing is still preserved and exhibited in the Carob Mill Museum.

The location of the museum between the Medieval Castle and the new Limassol Marina as well as the old Limassol harbour connect the past with the present and add in contemporary secular Limassol part of the tapestry of local history. The building was renovated in 2002 including its inside premises the ‘Carob Mill Museum’, the facilities of the ‘Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation’, the ‘Richard & Berengaria’ Ballrooms and ‘Karatello’ restaurant.

The combination of stone, wood and glass highlight the aesthetics while the view of the Medieval Castle inspires the visitors.

Today, the Lanitis Carob Mill hosts many local and international exhibitions, congresses and other events, receiving every time excellent comments and recommendations from numerous organisations worldwide.
